Christmas Drill Ride

Why did I agree to this - turning out for a drill ride- that's what I was thinking as I was getting ready to travel on a very cold December evening.

Well I was so pleased I did - what fun it was! This was the first drill ride for me and for several others of the 10 hardy riders who turned up at Warwickshire College in the middle of December. Despite many of us being very ignorant of what was required, Fran managed incredibly well to instruct us in a remarkably short time on what we needed to do, and before we knew it, we were riding in pairs, mostly in time, changing reins, filtering in and out as if we had been doing it for weeks. The horses and ponies worked incredibly hard, with fog rising around many of them when we had finished.

The Christmas music, mince pies and mulled wine made the evening very festive. It was a very enjoyable evening, and comments were made by all as to how good it was and can we have another one in the spring!

Many thanks to Marion, Sue, Olive, Simone, Fran and everyone else who helped with the evening - it is appreciated. Definitely a hot and a must for all members.

We have received the following email which might be of interest to some of our members

______

Dear Sue,

I work as a volunteer for British Dressage North West and I am making contact with Riding Clubs from across the North West Region to try and create closer ties between riding clubs and BD.

I don’t know if your members are aware that the majority of British Dressage training is open to non-BD members too. There are some top class riders and judges involved at venues in all areas of the region. The other thing that many people do not realise is that riders can compete in affiliated Prelim classes without being a BD member or registering their horse.

There are lots of opportunities for everyone to participate and even if a riders preferred discipline is not dressage, flatwork is on the route to a well balanced and responsive horse that will benefit a rider in any of the equestrian sports.

British Dressage welcomes all riders whatever their level of proficiency or the breed, type, size or hairiness of their horse!

If your members would like to know more about British Dressage North West Region they can look on the website by going to www.britishdressage.co.uk/your_regions/north_west_region  or by contacting the Regional Development Officer Elaine Gray elainegray@britishdressage.co.uk

To enable your members to easily find the availability of training in the region it would be great if you would create a link from your website to the British Dressage North West Region pages. A copy of the BD logo is attached should you wish to use it.

If you would like any more information, please do not hesitate to contact me. There are bi-monthly email newsletters available as well as email updates of new training opportunities. If you or any of your members would like to receive this information please let me know and I will add the details to our list.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this email. I hope that Stoneleigh Riding Club has a successful summer
With kindest regards
Mike
